The Northern Light, Aurora Borealis.

The Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, has always been of great significance to the people of Northern Norway. This is reflected in the area's myths as well as stories.

-The hunt for the Northern light

The bright dancing lights we can see across the sky are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. The lights activity is at its greatest above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. These are also the places where they are best visible. In the North they are known as 'Aurora Borealis' and in the south as 'Aurora Australis'. The magnetic pole of the north stretches right across Troms and Finnmark county, making this an excellent area for seeing Northern Lights.

This area has also been blessed with a climate and weather of frequently clear sky. This in combination with there being no distracting lights here at the Mountain Farm, means that the chances of seeing Northern Lights are huge at Ongajok.

We would go so far as to dare to say that if you are heading up north in order to see Northern Lights, this is the best place you go to in the North! Not only is the climatic and geographic location at its best for this purpose, but on top of that you can enjoy excellent accommodation, food, relaxation facilities and service at Ongajok.

It is therefore not without reason that some of our guests come all the way from Asia to experience the Aurora phenomenon from this spot.
